From the desk of Monsignor Bride
This weekend we celebrate the beautiful Solemnity of Christ the King. It is interesting that this year this beautiful feast falls on Thanksgiving weekend.
As we approach the end of the Church year, we hail Christ our King. We have celebrated the preparation for the coming of the Messiah in Advent, the birth of the Savior in Christmas, his Passion and death in Lent and his glorious Resurrection at Easter. We rejoice that he sends us his Spirit at Pentecost and we meditate on the work of the Church in our days throughout Ordinary Time. Now we approach the end of the year with the great Feast of the Saints in Heaven, the Souls in Purgatory, the People of God through the feast of the first and mother of all Churches throughout the city of Rome and the world, and now we hail Christ as our King. Let us reflect on the gift of our king to us and to our world as he brings his rule of peace, goodness, holiness, life and truth to our world.

This is the last Sunday of our 2006 Stewardship Appeal in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Quaker Hill. This is our annual appeal to parishioners to help us meet the ever growing expenses we face. With every expense rising, how can we meet the expenses if each of us does not seek to assist in meeting these critical needs?
Stewardship is a community effort. It needs the assistance of everyone. Because if everyone does his or her share, then the parish will be able to meet its expenses. We will have worked together and that is good.
This week:
- Please use the special envelope sent to you in the mail.
- If you have already increased your weekly offering, then just use the envelope and mark the amount that you did increase.
- Please pray that our parish will meet the
challenges facing it now and in the future.
- Please make every effort to remain steadfast in keeping you pledge throughout the year.
God bless each of you for your generosity.
God Bless our Lady of Perpetual Help parish!
May Our Lady of Perpetual Help watch over us, guide us and help us to be what her Son calls us to be.

Special Prayer for pope benedict xvi’s
Pilgrimage to turkey
Heavenly Father, from whom every family in Heaven and on earth takes its name, we humbly ask that you sustain, inspire, and protect your servant, Pope Benedict xvi, as he makes his pilgrimage to turkey – a land to which St. paul brought the gospel of your son: a land where once the mother of your son, dwelt; a land where faith in your son’s divinity was defined & professed. Bless our holy father, who comes as a messenger of truth and love to all people of faith and good-will who dwell there, a land so rich in history. In the power of the holy spirit, may this visit of the holy father bring about deeper ties of understanding, cooperation, and peace among roman catholics, the orthodox, and those who profess islam. May the prayers and events of these historic days greatly contribute to both greater accord among those who worship you, and also to peace in our world so often torn apart by war . We also ask, o heavenly father, that you watch over and protect pope benedict and entrust him to the loving care of mary, under the title of our lady of Fatima, a title cherished both by catholics and muslims. Through her prayers and maternal love, may pope benedict be kept safe from all harm as he prays, bears witness to the gospel, and invites all peoples to a dialogue of faith, reason, and love. We make this prayer through Christ, our lord. Amen.
