            Message from the Pastor

Dear Friends,

Thank you for the beautiful evening on the occasion of my installation as your pastor last weekend. I was extremely pleased with the number of people who attended and participated in the Liturgy of Installation and then came together for the dinner celebration which continued in the Church Hall. My family and friends were impressed by your generous welcoming hospitality.

I appreciate all the effort given by those who made the event so successful – The Parish Family Group, The Ladies Guild, and our young people of the Confirmation class. I appreciate all the greetings, cards and well wishes from our parishioners. It was a great evening for all.

On last Sunday, our celebration continued with nine of our second grade children receiving their First Holy Communion. Because of illness, two Children were not present at Church Sunday. Sister Michelle and I traveled to Yale New Haven Hospital to celebrate a Mass and the two Children were able to receive their First Eucharist on the same day. Please pray for all our first communicants as they join their families at our Eucharistic celebrations each week.

Please be as generous as your means will permit to our Annual Bishop’s Appeal which begins today.

Sincerely,
Father Joe

2008 Annual Bishop’s Appeal
“Bringing Hope To Those In Need”
This weekend our parish family is called upon to support the work of our Diocesan Church in fulfilling the Mission of our Good Shepherd, Jesus Christ.  Through our support of the Annual Bishop’s Appeal (ABA), we enable Catholic Charities to serve those in need in our communities.  Our support will also enable our Diocesan Church to provide programs that meet pastoral and spiritual needs that will enhance Jesus’ Mission in our time and place.  At Mass today, we will be collecting all gifts made to the 2008 ABA.  If you did not bring your completed pledge card with you to Mass today, the Ushers will be distributing extra gift envelopes during the In Pew presentation for the 2008 ABA.
The target goal for our Parish is $40,000, so we ask each parishioner to help us to the best of their ability by making a gift to this year’s campaign.  Together, with your support, we can accomplish many beautiful works of faith, hope and charity.  Thank  you.

Pentecost Eve Pontifical Mass will be celebrated at the Cathedral of St. Patrick at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday , May 10th with Bishop Michael Cote as celebrant and homilist.  For more information, please call the Spiritual Renewal Center at 887-0702.

The Ladies Guild will have their annual installation of officers and banquet this Tuesday, May 6th, 2008.  The installation and Mass will be at 5:00 PM, followed by hors d’oeuvres and dinner in the hall.  There is no cost for dinner. You may choose either Roast Pork or Stuffed Filet of Sole.  Please call Judy Strutt at 848-1386 with your choice of dinner.

Many Thanks!
We would like to thank everyone who worked so hard to make the dinner for Father Whittel’s Installation as our New Pastor a heartwarming success.
The dinner was wonderful, thanks to the many hands that prepared it, served it and cleaned  up after it.  Thank you to Sister Michelle for the beautiful bulletin board, Ladies Guild, Catechetical Students (and the parents they brought with them to help) and the many parishioners who volunteered.  Each time that we have an event, the number of workers grows and the work gets to be so much easier and more enjoyable.
                      Your Friends in Christ,
                    “The Parish Family Group”

Help is Needed!

Are you interested in becoming a Lay Minister at OLPH?  We are currently looking for additional Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion and Lectors, especially for 8 a.m. Mass on weekends.  As a result of normal attrition, 2007 saw a decline in the active list of ministers.  If you or someone you know might be interested, please telephone Father Whittel at 443-1875.  This is a wonderful way to serve Our Lord and OLPH parish.

Outside the Parish
Holy Family Summer Camp, an overnight camp, will be held from Monday, August 11 until Saturday, August 16 at Holy Family Motherhouse in Baltic, CT.  This annual summer experience, run by the Sisters of Charity of Our Lady Mother of the Church, is open to girls, ages 11-15.  The theme for this year’s Camp is centered on Our Lady of Guadalupe.  Activities include: daily Mass, spiritual talks and prayer, as well as crafts, games and various physical activities.  The fee is $150.00 per camper.  For more information, please call Sister Chistina at (860)822-8241 or email at religion@ahf.org.
