Message from the Pastor
Dear Friends,
This is the day when, true to His promise, Jesus sent the Holy Spirit to the apostles. The coming of the Holy Spirit changed the apostles and saw the launching of the new Christian Community which survives down the ages to our very day. We celebrate the beginnings of our Church and its mission to bring all people to God the Father through our Lord Jesus Christ. Each of us is empowered to give witness to Our Lord by our baptism. Today we celebrate our Church and its rich heritage.
Today is a special day when we recognize Mothers! As a people of God, we celebrate all that our Mothers, whether living or deceased, have done for us. We congratulate all Mothers for their tireless energy expended for their families. We must also include those who have assumed the role of a mother for those who lost their own mother.
This year’s Annual Bishop’s Appeal is a challenge – but nothing compared to the challenge many suffer each and every day of their lives. Please consider supporting this important effort of our diocese. Every gift makes a difference – every single gift. If you did not receive the 2008 Annual Appeal mailing or have lost or misplaced the pledge card that was mailed to your home there are extra pledge envelopes at the back of the Church. Thank you for your generosity.

2008 Annual Bishop’s Appeal
“Bringing Hope To Those In Need”
Thanks to the generosity to many parishioners, the initial response is very encouraging but we need the support of each and every family if we are to achieve the results we all desire for our brothers and sisters in need throughout the Diocese. Today is Follow-Up Weekend for the 2008 ABA. Your prayers for the success of the Annual Bishop’s Appeal, and the ministries it supports are still needed, as are pledges and gifts. There are so many ways God is made visible in the world around us. Our local Church sees God in the hundreds of thousands of people it takes care of every year by teaching, sheltering and caring for all who come to it for help. Your Church is coming to you now for help during the Annual Bishop’s Appeal. If you have not yet had the opportunity, please make your gift today. There are gift envelopes and pencils available in the back of the church or if you prefer you can go to the ABA link on the Diocesan web site: norwichdiocese.org and download a pledge card. Together with your support we can accomplish many beautiful works of faith, hope and charity. Thank you.
Help is Needed!
Are you interested in becoming a Lay Minister at OLPH? We are currently looking for additional Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion and Lectors, especially for 8 a.m. Mass on weekends. As a result of normal attrition, 2007 saw a decline in the active list of ministers. If you or someone you know might be interested, please telephone Father Whittel at 443-1875. This is a wonderful way to serve Our Lord and OLPH parish.
SIGN-UP SUNDAY FOR THE CONNECTICUT CATHOLIC CONFERENCE ADVOCACY NETWORK TO BE HELD IN PARISHES ON
May 17-18, 2008
BE AN INFORMED CATHOLIC VOTER
In an effort to promote the mission and teachings of the Church, the Bishops of our State have created the Connecticut Catholic Conference Advocacy Network. The purpose of this Network is two-fold. First, it helps to educate Catholics on current social issues, which it does by sending informational email bulletins to its members. Second, it alerts members about legislative issues which are being considered at the State and Federal level and allows them easy ways to contact their elected officials. Watch for the flyer in next week’s bulletin on May 17th and 18th for more information.
Care Net Baby Bottles for Life 2008
Please help protect the unborn and contribute to the annual Baby Bottle Campaign to support Care Net – a pro-life pregnancy resource center. Baby bottles are in the back of the church. Take empty baby bottles with you on Mothers Day, fill them with coins, currency or check and return them on Fathers Day.
