    Message from the Pastor

Dear Friends,

On next weekend, we will re-introduce receiving Holy Eucharist under both species’. I have been asked by a number of parishioners to offer the ability to received the Sacred Blood at weekend Masses.

All parishioners who have received their First Holy Communion are encouraged to begin receiving  under both species on the weekend of April 5-6, 2008.

Once we restart this practice, we will require more Special Ministers of Holy Communion. So I encourage anyone who has received their confirmation and is in good standing with the Church to volunteer to be special ministers of Holy Communion. Distributing Holy Communion is a gift to other members of our faith Community.

If we have sufficient special ministers, this change will not be a burden on our existing special ministers. If you are interested in participating in this ministry, please call the rectory. A Special Minister of Holy Communion training session will be given to all who volunteer.

God bless your service to our faith community.

Father Joe

2008 Annual Bishop’s Appeal
“Bringing Hope To Those In Need”
Each an every household is challenged to be a part of the life of the work of the Catholic Church in eastern Connecticut.  We can do this through a generous and sacrificial pledge to the Annual Bishop’s Appeal.  Every one of us is a beneficiary in one way or another of the ABA.  There is a great satisfaction in knowing that you have had a part in the training of men for the priesthood, in reaching out to the poor, the disenfranchised, and the helpless, in sharing the light of faith through education programs, in prison ministry, in keeping Catholic presence alive for college students and the many other ways in which the Annual Bishop’s Appeal serves God’s Church.  In the next few weeks you will be receiving a letter, brochure and pledge envelope from Bishop Cote. Please take the time to prayerfully consider what you are able to give in support of our Diocesan Church.

Help is Needed!

Are you interested in becoming a Lay Minister at OLPH?  We are currently looking for additional Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion and Lectors, especially for 8 a.m. Mass on weekends.  As a result of normal attrition, 2007 saw a decline in the active list of ministers.  If you or someone you know might be interested, please telephone Father Whittel at 443-1875.  This is a wonderful way to serve Our Lord and OLPH parish.
