       MESSAGE FROM BISHOP COTE

“Bishop Cote has issued a proclamation making June, 2008, Leave a Legacy Month throughout the Diocese.  When we include a bequest to the church or a service ministry in our will, we give a gift that keeps on giving long after we are gone.  Celebrate the good fortune so many of us have enjoyed by adding to your will a bequest to the Parish or to a Diocesan ministry or to another non-profit service agency.”

 2008 Annual Bishop’s Appeal
“Bringing Hope To Those In Need”
We are pleased to report that the 2008 Annual Bishop’s Appeal is being well received and generously supported by our Diocesan Family.  To date, we as the Catholic Church in eastern Connecticut have raised $2,406,846, which represents 71% of our ABA Goal of $3,400,000.  We are most grateful to those parishioners who have already made their commitment to the year’s campaign.  This is indeed a wonderful example of  your stewardship and willingness to reach out to others.  If you have not yet had the opportunity to respond as yet, please make an effort to do so.  Your support is vital to our Diocesan mission to be Jesus’ heart of mercy, voice of  hope and hands of justice.  Without your help this work would not continue.  Please be generous.  Thank  you.

Do you want to be an Altar Server?
Any Student, 3rd grade and up, who is interested in being an Altar Server, should please call the rectory at 443-1875 any time up to June 7th.

Have you heard the Call?
Come explore a vocation to the diocesan priesthood on June 8, 2008 at Enders Island from 1pm to 7pm.  The day will include a short video on the priesthood, talks by a seminarian and a diocesan priest, an opportunity to ask questions, an hour of adoration of the Blessed Sacrament with opportunity for the sacrament of reconciliation, Holy Mass, and dinner with Bishop Cote.  To register email: sec.voc@norwichdiocese.net as soon as possible or call 860-887-9294, ext. 246.

Results of the Retirement Fund for Religious Collection
We are pleased to report that our Diocesan family contributed $107,960.00 to this year’s Retirement Fund for Religious.  Sr. Janice Bader, Executive Director of the National Religious Retirement Office recently sent a letter of appreciation to Bishop Cote and had these kind words to say about the generosity of our Diocesan family.
“The generosity of the priests and parishioners of the Diocese of Norwich surely helps religious address the many challenges religious face as they age.  Religious today, as always, continue to make an impact on our society.  Even as they age, their commitment to the ministry of their community, their prayer and spiritual life are vibrant testimony to the faithfulness they promised so many years ago.  Each religious, young and old, is grateful for your support!  May God bless you as only He can!”

Are you interested in becoming a Lay Minister at OLPH?  We are currently looking for additional Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion and Lectors.  As a result of normal attrition, 2007 saw a decline in the active list of ministers.  If you or someone you know might be interested, please telephone Father Whittel at 443-1875.  This is a wonderful way to serve Our Lord and OLPH parish.

Care Net Baby Bottles for Life 2008
Please help protect the unborn and contribute to the annual Baby Bottle Campaign to support Care Net – a pro-life pregnancy resource center.  Baby bottles are in the back of the church.  Take empty baby bottles with you on, fill them with coins, currency or check and return them on Fathers Day.
