Pastoral Sharing

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

The word “Epiphany” means “appearing”, a “manifestation”, of something that was previously a secret or hidden.  What was hidden?  What was the secret?  What was made manifest for the first time?

It reveals that the Christ, the Jewish Messiah, had come not only for the Jews but also for the whole world.  The story of the magi was an early signal that the Church of Christ would be universal.  No particular Nation, Region, color or race.

But what does Christ’s message of a basic equality mean for us today?  It means that we are called to a high degree of tolerance for others, or better a high degree of respect and reverence for each person.  It means that we must respect people’s sincere consciences, even if we feel that are objectively wrong.  We must strive to love the sinner even as we hate the sin.  This is the simple reason that God loves us all with an unconditional love, and has given us all the same invitation into his kingdom.  The exchange of gifts on Epiphany symbolizes our duty to love.  Love is to wish the good of the other.

God Bless you.
Fr. Mariadas J. Lipton

DE-DECORATE THE CHURCH
This Tuesday night, January 8, 2008, we shall de-decorate the Church.   We need additional hands because we must not only take down the decorations, but transfer them to the Rectory attic.
Please come and help.   It takes only about 30 minutes, if we have sufficient number of hands.
