OPERATION RICE BOWL

Our Lenten Program
One Light, One Journey, One Human Family
For 34 years, Operation Rice Bowl has helped to feed the hungry poor.  Through our participation in this program, we bring hope and healing to another person or family living halfway across the globe, strengthen and enriching persons’ lives, both physically and spiritually, and greatly enhancing your parish community’s Lenten faith experience.  This Lent, gather in prayer and sacrifice as a family to pray and to care for the hungry poor.

R.I.P.
Most Reverend Daniel A. Hart passed in the Lord on Monday, January 7, 2008.    Please continue to keep him in your prayers.

Pastoral Sharing

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

The fifth, sixth and seventh chapters of the Gospel St. Matthew, also known as the Sermon on the Mount, contains the virtues a disciple of Jesus must possess.  These are the values Jesus taught and he himself practiced during his lifetime on earth.  These values are called “Beatitudes,” because they enable those who follow them to be something like Jesus.  Indeed, the beatitudes are the essence of Jesus’ teaching.

While they may offer a great challenge, because they are completely opposite to the values and standards of this world, their observance brings inner contentment and happiness.  The beatitudes are the principles of contentment in our lives; they outline the qualities by which we are allowed to foretaste the contentment of eternal happiness.

My friends, the beatitudes contain most of the Christian moral code, that is, the pattern for a truly Catholic life.

God Bless you.
Fr. Mariadas J. Lipton
