OPERATION RICE BOWL

Our Lenten Program
One Light, One Journey, One Human Family
For 34 years, Operation Rice Bowl has helped to feed the hungry poor.  Through our participation in this program, we bring hope and healing to another person or family living halfway across the globe, strengthen and enriching persons’ lives, both physically and spiritually, and greatly enhancing your parish community’s Lenten faith experience.  This Lent, gather in prayer and sacrifice as a family to pray and to care for the hungry poor.

R.I.P.
Most Reverend Daniel A. Hart passed in the Lord on Monday, January 7, 2008.    Please continue to keep him in your prayers.

Thank You

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ.

Greetings of Peace.

Bishop Michael Cote has appointed Fr. Joseph B. Whittel as the Pastor of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, Quaker Hill.  Currently he is serving as the pastor of St. Mary Church in Jewett City.  He will be taking charge of Our Lady of Perpetual Help parish on February 13th.

I have been given an assignment as temporary administrator of Notre Dame Church in Durham.  I will be leaving Quaker Hill on February 13th.

Even though I was here for only a short period, I enjoyed serving the Catholic community of Quaker Hill.  I sincerely thank all of you for your love, prayers, support an encouragement you extended to me during these days.  I request your prayers for my ministry at Durham.

Thank you and God bless you.
Fr. Mariadas J. Lipton

OPERATION RICE BOWL
For the next several weeks we will have Operation Rice Bowls available in the back of Church.
Every Family should have a bowl and every family member should participate in putting in a daily donation for the poor and needy. This should be an intimate part of your Lenten Program.
PLEASE STOP AND PICK UP YOU BOWL
AND SPECIAL EXPLANATORY MATERIAL.
This is sponsored by Catholic Relief Services and by the Diocese of Norwich.

First Come – First Served
Pope Benedict XVI’s Papal Mass at Yankee Stadium will be on Sunday, April 20, 2008.  Our parish has been allotted 10 tickets.  If you are a registered parishioner of OLPH and interested in going, the forms are in the Sacristy, fill in name, address, telephone number and date of birth and leave the form in the Sacristy, which will be sent to the Chancery on Monday to meet the deadline of February 11th.  The Archdiocese of New York asks that we notify all those attending the Mass that the City of New York will be in lockdown mode.  Buses not registered with New York City will not be able to enter the “frozen zone.”  Passengers on unregistered buses and other vehicles must disembark at least ¼ mile from the Stadium and walk through South Bronx to the Stadium.  The Diocese of Norwich is not providing transportation to New York.
