From the desk of Monsignor Bride
1
We have entered the season of Advent and already we are at the Second Sunday. This very short season is so quick and fast moving that it is easy for it to slip by and not allow it to take root inside us- especially because of all the other things we have to do to get ready for Christmas. “The Lord is looking for you.  Let him find you.” This weekend the CATHOLIC BOOK STORE  from Hartford will visit OLPH parish. There are many wonderful gifts and needed spiritual reminders of our Faith.  Many of our young people are not aware of the beauty and meaning of the externals which add so much to the practice of our faith. Stop down, browse, and purchase some wonderful gifts for your children, your grandchildren, and yourselves which help you to practice your Faith better. Ask yourself:

  1. Does every bedroom in your home have a crucifix so each person in your family can see how much Jesus loves him/her?
  2. Does every person in your family have a pair of rosary beads?
  3. How many statues do you have in your home? Of Jesus? Mary? The patron Saint of your children?
  4. Do you have a family bible?

(How will we ever know the word of God, if it is not available to us?)

  1. Is there a prayer book available for all to learn and say the prayers which are so much a part of the practice of our Faith? (especially on unique occasions)
  2. Do you have a musical CD or tape of

      the religious hymns of Christmas?
Remember: Keep Christ in Christmas!

  1. Do you have a holy water bottle with holy water in it? Every home should have Holy Water for emergencies, for use when a person is very sick, or when there is a fear of imminent  danger.
  2. Do you have blessed candles in your

home in case a priest is called to bring Holy Communion or perform an emergency Anointing? A crucifix, & Holy Water, are very much a part of this sacrament.

  1. Do you have a small crucifix or

small medal in your car, blessed by
the priest to guide all of you on our
      busy highways and accident prone
      roads?
Stop down to our hall today!

We journey through the season of Advent. Time passes quickly. This is a “quick” season. These are important days. Let us celebrate them as gifts of the Lord for which we should be so grateful.  Let us inject into them the true spirit of Christmas preparation.

Oplatek
This week, the Second Sunday of Advent, we have available “Oplatek” (Christmas Wafers). There are four per envelope. The custom of Oplatek dates back many centuries to an obscure Polish village and has been a cherished custom by Polish People everywhere up to the present day. You may enter the sacristy and pick your Oplatek envelop up. Donation is $3.00 per envelope. (Place in money envelope.)

PLEASE HELP DECORATE THE CHURCH
This Monday night at 5:00 P.M. (December 11TH), we shall decorate the Church with the green wreaths and the green trees.  We need many hands to assist. Please come and help us. It usually takes about 45-50 minutes.
