Message from the Pastor
Dear Friends,
Two important events are occurring in our parish this weekend. First, our second graders will be receiving Holy Communion for the first time. Please pray for them and their parents as they come to the Altar to receive Jesus Christ.
Our second event is my installation as pastor of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish. Very Rev. Michael Donahue, Dean of the New London Deanery for the Norwich Diocese will conduct the installation ceremony. This ceremony is the formal “taking possession” of the parish and my acknowledging the responsibility placed on me to the people of God of Quaker Hill. It is with great joy that I accept the responsibility of the parish. Please pray for me as we journey together.
In all other parishes in the diocese this weekend, the film for the Annual Bishop’s Appeal will be shown to begin the 2008 campaign. We will show the DVD, Bringing Hope to Those In Need, on the weekend of May 4, 2008. The key to the success of the campaign lies in participation of our parishioners. If each family prayerfully chooses to participate we will make our goal. It’s that simple!
We realize everyone’s financial situation is different and all we can ask is that we help those in need who are being cared for by ministries within our diocese. Please pray for the success of the campaign during these economically difficult times.
Sincerely,
Father Joe

2008 Annual Bishop’s Appeal
“Bringing Hope To Those In Need”
The 2008 Annual Bishop’s Appeal (ABA) will be held next weekend, May 3rd and 4th in our Parish. Ushers will hand out pledge envelopes during Mass while our Pastor explains the need for your help this year and the process of making your gift using this method.
The ABA provides us with an opportunity to unite with all Catholics in the Diocese to share our blessings and to show our concern for one another. Please assist the works of Spiritual Formation, Priest Retirement, Vincent DePaul Soup Kitchen, Hospital Chaplains, Catholic Charities, Religious Education, Evangelization and many other services provided by the Diocese. Our goal this year is to have 100% participation. In order to achieve this target, each one of us is asked to give in accordance with our means. Share your love for God and others……pledge a generous gift to the Annual Bishop’s Appeal.
The Most Reverend Michael R. Cote, D.D.

Religious Education Program
Our Religious Education Program has been completed for the school year for 2007-2008. Sincere thanks to Mrs. Melody Costello, Mrs. Elaine Schleicher, Mrs. Mary Grace Dougherty, and Mrs. Kerry Evans for their dedication in instructing our children so faithfully through the course of the year. Your weekly sacrifice is greatly appreciated by your parish family.
Thank you to all the parents who have been so faithful in making Religious Instructions a priority in your children’s life. Because of your Christian principles, your children are following your example of making Christ a real presence in their daily lives.
God bless all for making our Religious Education Program one blessed by dedicated service and love.

Help is Needed!
Are you interested in becoming a Lay Minister at OLPH? We are currently looking for additional Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion and Lectors, especially for 8 a.m. Mass on weekends. As a result of normal attrition, 2007 saw a decline in the active list of ministers. If you or someone you know might be interested, please telephone Father Whittel at 443-1875. This is a wonderful way to serve Our Lord and OLPH parish.
