Message from the Pastor
Dear Friends,
We welcomed Pope Benedict to our shores for his first Papal visit to the United States. This weekend some of our parishioners have traveled to New York City to be present and represent our parish at the beautiful Mass to be held in Yankee Stadium. We pray that his journey will be safe and that he will be able to awake a renewed interest in the resurrected Christ in all people here in the United States.
We also pray that his visit will re-evangelize those who have let their faith slip because of inaction. May they be inflamed to allow the Holy Spirit to work again in their life.
Sunday April 27, our children in the second grade will receive the Lord Jesus for the first time at the 10:30 Mass. We ask you to begin to pray for these young people who have received first penance and will be welcomed to the table of the Lord and celebrate their First Holy Communion.
On May 11, we will celebrate Mother’s Day. In the tradition of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, we will have a novena of Masses for Mothers who are living or deceased. There will be a flyer in the bulletin requesting you to enroll your Mother. For all Mothers who are alive, we will have a Maas card for them. All Mothers’ names will be entered in our Book of Remembrance.

2008 Annual Bishop’s Appeal
“Bringing Hope To Those In Need”
The 2008 Annual Bishop’s Appeal will be held in our Parish, and every Parish throughout the Diocese of Norwich, on the weekend of May 3/4, 2008. Just as we are one in the Body of Christ, we must remember that we are one with other Parishes in our Diocese. Once a year, Bishop Cote asks each of us to make a commitment to support the work of our Diocesan programs and ministries that provide services that no one parish could provide on its own. This effort is a means by which we can all work together to care for the Church in eastern Connecticut by sharing the gifts God has granted us. Please experience the joy of giving and join us as we work to continue God’s work of spirituality, charity and education. Together with your support we are improving and expanding upon the ministry of Christ in our community. Please be as generous as your means allow. Thank you.
The Ladies Guild will have their annual installation of officers and banquet on Tuesday, May 6th, 2008. The installation and Mass will be at 5:00 PM, followed by hors d’oeuvres and dinner in the hall. There is no cost for dinner. You may choose either Roast Pork or Stuffed Filet of Sole. Please call Judy Strutt at 848-1386 with your choice of dinner before May 1st.
Welcome to the Family of God
On Sunday, April 13, 2008, Martha Jane Hammond was baptized in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church and became a Child of God. We congratulate Martha, her parents, Christopher and Kelli (Lassiter) Hammond and her godparents.
A Bible Study/Prayer Group meets on Friday mornings at 9:30 A.M. in different people’s homes. The new group started on April 4, 2008. The first topic will be the Book of Revelation. All are welcome to join, please call Anne Megan at 447-3488.
Help is Needed!
Are you interested in becoming a Lay Minister at OLPH? We are currently looking for additional Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion and Lectors, especially for 8 a.m. Mass on weekends. As a result of normal attrition, 2007 saw a decline in the active list of ministers. If you or someone you know might be interested, please telephone Father Whittel at 443-1875. This is a wonderful way to serve Our Lord and OLPH parish.
