Message from the Pastor
Dear Friends,
On April 16, 2008 the 264th Pope, Benedict XVI will arrive in the United Sates for his first visit as the successor to St. Peter. His pilgrimage to this country will begin in Washington, D. C. with a visit with President Bush in the morning and then a Prayer Service with the U.S. Bishops in the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception.
The Pope’s inaugural visit with us will allow many people to have the opportunity to see this remarkable man and watch his interaction with Church officials, political leaders, Catholic educators, leaders of other faiths, young Catholics and those who will attend his Masses and pray with him in Washington and New York.
Our Church leader has published two encyclicals with the themes of Love and Hope. His first book, published as Pope, is “Jesus of Nazareth,” which is his personal search for the face of the Lord. It is the work of a brilliant Theologian and elaborates on his conviction as a believer of Jesus Christ.
On next weekend, we will distribute a token memento of this historic visit. Please pray that Pope Benedict’s visit will be successful and help to lead us, as a people of God, closer to Our Lord Jesus Christ. Welcome, Holy Father!

2008 Annual Bishop’s Appeal
“Bringing Hope To Those In Need”
Most parishioners realize that their Annual Bishop’s Appeal gifts support the hungry, the homeless, the frail and the sick. But your help goes beyond that. Every parishioner at some point has benefited from the ABA. Every Catholic school and parish faith formation program, like the one here in our parish, receives part of your gift through Diocesan training, support and consultation. Marriage preparation programs, clergy enrichment programs as well as a host of other human service, spiritual and educational activities exist to provide service through your goodness to this vital campaign. Please consider increasing your ABA gift this year. Be Christ for others and make a generous pledge to the Annual Bishop’s Appeal.
The Ladies Guild will have their annual installation of officers and banquet on Tuesday, May 6th, 2008. The installation and Mass will be at 5:00 PM, followed by hors d’oeuvres and dinner in the hall. There is no cost for dinner. You may choose either Roast Pork or Stuffed Filet of Sole. Please call Judy Strutt at 848-1386 with your choice of dinner before May 1st.
Welcome to the Family of God
On Sunday, March 30, 2008, Lauren Elizabeth Piotrowski was baptized in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church and became a Child of God. We congratulate Lauren, her parents, David and Donna (Spedding) Piotrowski and her godparents.
A Bible Study/Prayer Group meets on Friday mornings at 9:30 A.M. in different people’s homes. The new group started on April 4, 2008. The first topic will be the Book of Revelation. All are welcome to join, please call Anne Megan at 447-3488.
Help is Needed!
Are you interested in becoming a Lay Minister at OLPH? We are currently looking for additional Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion and Lectors, especially for 8 a.m. Mass on weekends. As a result of normal attrition, 2007 saw a decline in the active list of ministers. If you or someone you know might be interested, please telephone Father Whittel at 443-1875. This is a wonderful way to serve Our Lord and OLPH parish.
